Diagnosing valve issues

I had some engine trouble and was wondering if I bent or burnt a valve. Someone suggested pulling the head and doing a fluid test, pour water or gas into the intake and exhaust to check for leaks. Another tip I got was to do a simple compression test to figure out if there's a valve or ring issue

Yep, both are good ways to check for valve issues.

The fluid test can definitely show a leaky valve if you see leaking the valve seat. On the other hand. compression test is easier to do with the head on. Low compression in a cylinder often points to a
valve problem. .

Thanks for the tips, I'll probably start with the compression test since it's less invasive and if that shows issues, then I'll consider the fluid test with the head off
