Should I do my own routine service and skip Warranty? Dealer told me first oil changes were at 600 miles, so missed first one.

Bought my People 150s new in January from official dealer. Should I pay to have routine maintenance done at $500/year?

Dealer told me the first service was at 600m/1,000 km or 3 months.
I now see the first column of 200 m/300 km requiring the first oils changes and recognize those are super critical to get rid of metals. I didn't even look at it till now because I trusted the dealer and he wrote a big "1st" above the next column at 600 miles/1k km/3months.
I had to leave my bike after about 3 months and didn't return until 6 months.

So now it has 450 miles/700 kms/6 months and I just returned. This week I myself changed the oil and the gear oil for the first time at 450 miles.
The engine oil was clean in color but had a fair bit of metallic glitter, not a crazy amount but clearly prevalent throughout. I think it appeared gold colored (brass) but dim apartment garage so not sure. I assume that's pretty normal? I'm in a 80 degree climate so no cold operation.
I am going to replace it again to cycle it within the week to remove any other metals.

The gear oil did not appear metallic. I emptied the gear oil, and then gave it a flush with the bike running for a couple of minutes, accelerator on low, drained it again, then filled it for the 2nd time. I'll do the same with the engine oil.

Can anyone estimate what damage may have been done by missing the first changes at 200 miles/300km? I understand how important that is for the life of the bike, but wonder if it's quantifiable. The bike was basically 3 months old when serviced because it sat for 3 months, but I did drive it around for the first week back while I figured out how to do the oil changes, etc.

I called a local bike shop and they said they would be able to figure out the manufacturer required routine maintenance paperwork to fulfill the warranty requirements, they are authorized to complete them.

I am considering at probably $80 to $150 per visit, is it worth paying to have the maintenance done? I always do my own but have never owned a new vehicle before, and never a scooter. I will do the service religiously, probably sooner than required. Material costs are a tiny investment and time is not a problem.

Every 3 months or probably $500/year or $1k for the first 2 years to remain in warranty status. That's 25% of the cost of the bike. Is that actually worth it if you are mechanical and can probably fix most problems? That being said, it's not like owning a 4runner where there are 30 videos on how to perform every repair. I have zero experience with bikes/small motors, only cars. So I don't know if service info is even available, the few searches I've done have been sparse.

By the way did I get it correct that the oil screen drops down inside the spring and at the top of the spring? And it does not protrude upwards, away from the spring? It goes drain plug/spring/downward scooping screen.

Thank you!

Missing that first oil change at 200 miles isnt great, but since you caught it at 450 and did the change, you likely avoided serious damage. The metallic bits you saw are pretty normal for a new engine. Doing a couple more oil changes soon is a good call. Dealer maintenance is pricey but keeps your warranty safe and makes sure things are done right, especially if you're new to scooters. If youre handy and want to save money, doing your own is fine, but just know the dealer service gives peace of mind. And yep, your take on the oil screen position sounds spot on

bro, don't worry too much about the missed service. yeah, that first oil change is super important, but running it for 450 miles and then letting it sit likely caused minimal to no damage.
A small amount of metallic glitter in that first oil change is completely normal and expected. it's just the final seating of the new parts. Your plan to do a second, quick oil change is a great idea and will flush out any remaining particles
